Last month seen the famous RWM show purchased by Prysm Group. There was talk that dates would be amended and that the show would be held in October but this has since further been confirmed that the show will continue to be held in September.

A number of concerns have been raised regarding this. A number of people voice that the October date clashed with school half term holidays, that the September date is well-established in the industry calendar and some exhibitors had already booked hotels. And, the CIWM, which has a commercial interest in the event, was also in favour of a September date as were a number of senior industry figures involved with RWM.

The Global recycling association- the "Bureau of International Recycling (BIR)" has called for world leaders to implement and strengthen international agreements that promote recycling.

It was recommended in a list of seven changes to prioritise recycling, and world leaders have been asked to commit to this. The changes will be central to the mission of the first Global Recycling Day which is to be held on 18 March this year.

The international initiative designed by BIR is to raise awareness of the need to shift the global perception of what is considered as waste into a valuable resource.

A project has been undertaken by the Environment Agency with a view to tackle waste crime produced potential combined benefits of over £29 million. Waste crime has been in the spotlight this week, with the International Criminal Police Organization – INTERPOL – recognising two international initiatives to tackle environmental crime.

The £29 million benefits figure came in an evaluation by the Environment Agency which further found that for each £1 invested, at least £5 worth of potential benefits were identified.

The government allocated £5 million in 2014 (March) from the Landfill Communities Fund to the Environment Agency to set up the WCIE project. This was then added to an additional £800,000 which was made available to the project by HM Treasury in 2015.

Making a change can be daunting regardless of what it is. Whether it is your mortgage or car insurance, often we stay with a supplier that we are not fully happy with simply because its easy and the steps we would need to take in order to make the change scare us a little.

Often we talk to new members of our Compliance Scheme and find this is exactly the case for them too.

Changing Compliance Scheme doesn't have to be a daunting task.

First of all, if you would like to switch to you compliance scheme you must give notice to your existing compliance scheme. This will all be dependant upon your contract you have with them- you will need to check the terms of the agreement. You will then need to complete our registration forms and provide us with your data regarding the weight of EEE placed on the market.

A member of our team will be happy to guide you through the steps and make the switch as smooth as possible!

Give us a call today and discuss your requirements!

This week marked the government recognising and providing support to Recycling and the Circular Economy through its Industrial Strategy.

The Prime Minister, Theresa May said on the matter “Our modern Industrial Strategy will shape a stronger and fairer economy for decades to come. It will help create the conditions where successful businesses can emerge and grow, and support these businesses in seizing the big opportunities of our time, such as artificial intelligence and big data, whilst also making sure our young people have the skills to take on the high-paid, high-skilled jobs this creates.”
